History
Paul Stewart has been creating with clay for over 35 years. Having a father who was a potter was a strong impetus
to pursue this passion. Paul has produced many lines of functional ware while, at the same time, exploring more spontaneous and decoratively intense pieces. Nine years of raku firing lead to his current fascination with the creative possibilities of saggarware and the intense colour palate of the pizzazz line of work. While exploring surface colour, he has also been delving into surface texture. This has evolved into striking crackleware pieces. Paul has produced for corporate commissions, interior designers, restaurants and offices, private collections around the world, and the TV and Movie industries.
Artist Statement
Great pottery doesn't attempt to mimic nature or to fly in the face of it. I believe that timeless pottery celebrates our natural world by best utilizing the simple gifts from the ground. I love the fact that clay combined with combustibles, metals, and fire can create such magic.
